The benefits of contact lenses
For people with 20/20 vision, the benefits of contact lenses over glasses seem miniscule and not worth fussing about. Why would you want to poke your finger in your eyes every day? But for those of us less fortunate, lacking perfect vision, the benefits of contact lenses over glasses are immense. Of course, we can’t always rely on contact lenses. Many people have complicated prescriptions that only glasses can accommodate and even for those of us able to wear contact lenses, we still need to take regular breaks from them, to allow our eyes to ‘breathe’. But, all in all, there are many ‘pros’ to wearing contact lenses and with greater innovation and reductions in costs, there are fewer and fewer ‘cons’.
Vision Direct offers contact lenses in various guises, including colour, multi or varifocal and continuous wear lenses. If you are thinking about making the move from glasses to contacts, here are three reasons why you should stop sitting on the fence and take the plunge.
Greater field of view
Unlike glasses, you don’t have any blind spots when you wear contact lenses. You get a full field of vision just as you would if you had 20/20 sight.
Flexibility
Contact lenses offer a huge amount of flexibility. One of the main problems with wearing glasses is risk of breakage or slippage during sport and activity. Contact lenses, in most cases, stay put. You can surf, play football, ski and go skydiving all in your contact lenses. Many sports, particularly those based in water, are compromised if you wear glasses. You either choose to keep them on and risk losing them, or you take them off and can’t see anything. Either way your enjoyment is restricted. Wearing contact lenses counteract this. You can do anything a full-sighted person can do.
Appearance
These days, glasses aren’t the geeky, cumbersome things they used to be. Glasses have become a fashion statement and some high street shops are even selling glasses without prescriptions. However, for people that have to wear glasses, it’s appealing to have an alternative, a chance to change your appearance, often quite dramatically, without needing surgery. You can choose how often you wear your contact lenses and decide whether you want to be mainly a glasses wearer of a contact lenses wearer. Either way, wearing the alternative every once in a while is a great way to change your look.
